Safe through the winter

Böckmann recommends a winter check for all trailers.

To optimally prepare car trailers, livestock trailers, and horse trailers for the coming winter, we recommend a comprehensive winter check for all trailers.

Regular maintenance and inspections ensure the longevity of the vehicles. The inspection should be carried out every twelve months or every 5000 km by an appropriate specialist.

Especially in the cool, damp season, it is important to thoroughly check the trailer to ensure safe driving in the following season. Particularly if the trailer stands still for a long time in winter or is used infrequently, this should not have negative effects on the vehicle. Therefore, the silicone seams, lock cylinders, and braking system are especially checked by the specialist for their condition.

Properly winterizing trailers

In general, we recommend storing trailers in a covered space during the winter. If this is not possible, the trailer should be parked at an angle so that water can drain off the roof or loading area, preventing waterlogging. To prevent the trailer from rolling away during a longer standstill, wheel chocks should be used. The handbrake should not be engaged for this purpose, as it can freeze and cause damage during the cold months.

To have the trailer checked and to perform the winter check, you can contact your Böckmann dealer, schedule an appointment, and then safely go into the winter break.
